Grooming by Emily
My career began in cosmetology, where I earned my license in hair design. Oddly enough, that path led me to discover an even deeper passion: grooming dogs. While exploring grooming schools, I was offered a position at PetSmart in New Jersey — and learned that they send their bathers to grooming school. It felt like the perfect opportunity.
I started as a bather, working my way up until I qualified for grooming school. After completing the program, I signed a two‑year commitment and joined a salon that went on to become the number‑one PetSmart grooming department in the country for three consecutive years, generating over one million dollars annually. From there, I expanded my experience by grooming for a veterinary office and several small, family‑owned shops.
Over the years, I realized how much I love helping animals feel comfortable, confident, and cared for. I also learned how stressful a traditional grooming shop can be — for both pets and groomers. Shared tables, crowded spaces, dogs only a few feet apart, and anxious or touch‑sensitive pets made every day a challenge.
Transitioning to in‑home, one‑on‑one grooming changed everything. Pets are calmer in their own environment, there’s no cage time, no exposure to unfamiliar dogs, and no overwhelming shop atmosphere. It allows me to work at the animal’s pace, honor their emotional needs, and provide a safer, more personalized experience.
Offering one‑on‑one, in‑home grooming has been the best decision I’ve made for my career — and for the pets I care for.
